Marco Arocha

About Me

I’ve been a cyclist for 20+ years. For the last 10 years I have mentored and advised cyclists of different levels and abilities. I’m a fluent Spanish speaker.

I grew up between Mexico, Northern California and Puerto Rico. By education I’m a Mechanical Engineer, by passion I’m a cyclist and a mentor to many others.

My involvement in the sport started as a very young kid, working as a bike mechanic for multiple years in different shops as life would take me. Later on as I further developed as an athlete, I was a multi-time member of the Puerto Rico National Team for MTB, National Champion as a U23 for XCO and at the Elite level for the STXC.

I’ve been racing my bike on the MTB or road for multiple years and have been training and racing with a power meter for 6+ years, it has been one of the best tools to help learn, improve and develop.

Since I have been living in California, in 2011 I fully focused on racing at the Cat 1 Masters 30-40 division. I have been on the podium of the USAC MTB National Championships on multiple years. I’ve won the CA-State Champion Title for XC, the CA-State Series Championships and one of my sweetest victories was at Sea Otter Classic XC (2012) followed by a Road Race the following day, both won with a solo effort. I’m looking to continue placing in the top podium on the years to come.

My respect to life and well being of myself and of others has driven me to become vegan and vegetarian on required occasions.

I love to tinker with things in my garage and improve upon existing designs to make things better.

Currently my own training focuses on achieving a USA national title, primarily focused on the MTB or on the Road. In addition, I would like to pursue some of the long endurance events on the Road such as the KOM series in Southern California.

Balancing life as a coach/athlete/husband/career and provide my experiences to others on how to do so.


I’m a firm believer that coaching is about how to work with the athlete to understand strengths and opportunities for improvement, and to motivate them. Part of this is creating an overall structure to improve anything from fitness, skills for the chosen sport, nutrition strategies to achieve peak performance, race planning and visualization.

I understand that lifestyle drives our level of commitment and I have first-hand knowledge on how to fit it into an athletic program, as I have a full-time job as an IT Program Leader.
