Andy Jones-Wilkins

Pro Level Coach – Specializes In Ultrarunning

My coaching philosophy is based on the notion of “first who, then what.”  For me, having a deep understanding of who an athlete is – where they are from, what their influences are, how they’ve evolved — forms the basis of what I do with that athlete and how their program evolves over time.  Building upon the virtues of that strong relationship, I then mold the athlete’s training around their goals and objectives as well as providing a sense of balance with the rest of their lives.”

Coach Bio:

I began running ultramarathons in 1992 and subsequently began coaching endurance runners in 2009.  I have been with CTS since 2016. In addition to my work as an ultrarunning coach I am also a full-time school administrator, teacher, and father of three active sons.  As such, I have a particular affinity for those athletes attempting to juggle endurance training with the challenges and stresses of a busy life.

Personally, I have competed in the following  ultramarathon races:
  • Western States 100
  • Hardrock 100
  • Leadville Trail 100
  • Wasatch 100
  • Vermont 100
  • Grand Teton 100
  • Bighorn 100
  • Grindstone 100
  • Angeles Crest 100
  • Rocky Raccoon 100
  • Javelina Jundred
I have also coached athletes in all of the races listed above as well as the following:
  • UTMB/CCC/TDS
  • Tahoe 200
  • Moab 240
  • The Barkley Marathons
  • Miwok 100K
  • Lake Sonoma 50
  • Bear 100
  • Bandera 100K
  • JFK 50
  • Vermont 50
  • Masanutten Mountain 100
  • Old Dominion 100
  • Black Canyon 100K
  • The Georgia Death Race

I have been running ultramarathons since 1993.  I ran my first 100 miler in 2000 and have, to date, completed 32 100 mile races, including 10 finishes at Western States.  I am an educator by trade, husband to Shelly for 25 years and the father a three great boys Carson (19), Logan (17) and Tully (14).

My coaching philosophy is based on the notion of “first who, then what.”  For me, having a deep understanding of who an athlete is – where they are from, what their influences are, how they’ve evolved — forms the basis of what I do with that athlete and how their program evolves over time.  Building upon the virtues of that strong relationship, I then mold the athlete’s training around their goals and objectives as well as providing a sense of balance with the rest of their lives.
