CTS Athletes Race Strong Across Pro and Amateur Races At Sea Otter Classic
(April 23, 2013 – Colorado Springs, CO) – Athletes coached by Carmichael Training Systems had a strong showing at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterrey, California on April 18-21. CTS-coached athletes competed across the full range of pro to novice competitions, and in road, mountain bike, and cyclocross events. Check out some of the highlights:
Pros and Elites:
In the Pro Stage Races, Kirk Carlsen, racing for the Predator Carbon Repair team and coached by CTS Premier Coach Jim Lehman, won the Pro Men’s individual time trial stage to move into the overall race leader’s yellow jersey. He survived a crash in the final stage of the race to win the General Classification! In the Women’s Pro race, Alison Tetrick won the individual time trial stage and finished 4th overall. Alison races for Team Exergy-Twenty16 and is coached by CTS Premier Coach Dean Golich.
In the Pro Cyclocross races, Caroline Mani won the Pro Women’s race riding for Clement-Raleigh. Ryan Trebon finished 3rd in the Pro Men’s race riding for Clement-Cannondale, and Tyler Coplea finished 7th in the Pro Men’s Race. All three are coached by Jim Lehman.
On the mountain bike, longtime CTS Athlete and Olympian Katerina Nash rode to second place in the Pro Women’s Short Track race and sixth in the Cross-Country race for Team Luna Chix. Three-time World Champion Rebecca Rusch raced to 23rd place in the Cross-Country race, as she wrapped up her training for her April 28 attempt to break the record (15hr 3min) on the 142-mile Kokopelli Trail from Moab, Utah to Fruita, Colorado.
In the Pro Men’s mountain bike races, 18-year-old Ryan Geiger finished 43rd in the Short Track and 37th in the Cross-Country. Ryan was the 2012 Under-19 Leadville 100 Champion, and as a young rider he’s performing quite well in the pro men’s field.
In the gravity events, CTS Premier Coach Colin Izzard’s athletes earned some great results. Luca and Walker Shaw finished 1st and 2nd in the Men 17-18 Cat 1 Downhill, and Luca also earned 6th place in the Pro Dual Slalom! Trek World Racing pro Neko Mulally raced to 10th place in the Pro Downhill.
Amateurs
Carmichael Training Systems coaches athletes across the full spectrums of age, ability level, and experience, and several CTS amateur athletes competed at Sea Otter. Some highlights of their results follow:

In addition to the results above, the OneWay Cycling Team deserves mention. The coaches from CTS Santa Ynez work with the team, and while they didn’t make it to the Sea Otter podium, they showed a tremendous amount of progress from 2012 to 2013. Dave Pankratz finished 12th in the Cat 3 Circuit Race and 15th in the Road Race. Brian Federman was 21st in the Cat 4 Road Race and 32nd in the Circuit Race, and overall the team put forth a great effort!
