(February 16, 2017, Colorado Springs, CO) – Recently retired professional cyclist Matthew Busche is moving from the pro peloton to professional coaching, CTS announced today. A CTS-coached athlete during his racing career, Busche recently graduated from the rigorous CTS Coaching College and is currently accepting athletes for personal coaching.
During his 7-year career, Busche was the US Pro Road Race Champion in 2011 and 2015 and rode for UCI Pro Tour teams Trek Factory Racing, Radioshack-Leopard-Trek, Radioshack-Nissan-Trek, and Team Radioshack; as well as Pro-Continental and Continental teams UnitedHealthcare and Kelly Benefits Strategies. While he adds invaluable real-world racing expertise to the CTS Coaching Staff, he has also dedicated himself to learning the science and art of professional coaching.
“A lot of elite athletes step out of competition and directly into coaching by relying solely on what worked for them,” said CTS CEO and Head Coach, Chris Carmichael. “CTS has the most successful education and mentorship program in endurance coaching. Over the past 17 years we have educated and developed the best coaches, some of whom still coach with CTS and some who have moved on to hold prestigious coaching and sports science positions worldwide. I’m proud to say Matthew worked very hard to meet the demands of the CTS Coaching College, and I am confident he is ready to deliver the high standard of service and expertise I demand of all CTS Coaches.”
Matthew Busche will be based out of CTS’s training center in Brevard, North Carolina, under the direct mentorship of CTS Premier Coach Colin Izzard. He is currently accepting athletes at the Select and Premium service levels. He is also available for private training camps, will be coaching at some of CTS’s 40+ annual training camps, and will represent CTS in selected races and events, including the CTS Figueroa Gran Fondo in Santa Ynez, CA on November 11, 2017.

Asked to comment on why he chose to coach with CTS, Busche responded, “I considered coaching on my own, but while I was a pro riding under the guidance of the CTS Coaches in North Carolina I was impressed by the level of support and education CTS provides their coaches. They have tremendous resources throughout the company. I was a successful racer and I want to be an even better coach. CTS is the best place for me to develop into a great coach.”
CTS is offering a special introductory offer for athletes who want to work with Matthew. The first five athletes who sign up for a full year of coaching at the Premium service level ($315/month) will get their first month of coaching for just $1. Interested athletes can sign up here. A VIP Ride with Matthew and Chris Carmichael will be held at the Brevard, NC training center from 1:30-4:30pm on April 7, followed by a reception at the center. Athletes interested in participating in the ride can register here.
