Chris Carmichael Blog: Weekend Reading with Pros vs. Joes power analysis from the Tour of California

Almost there! Saturday is Stage 7 of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California, which means just one more day to go for Team CTS at the ATOC Race Experience. Everyone is doing great and looking strong, although it’s safe to say we’re all experiencing a lot of fatigue. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m tired. I’m having a great time, but I’ll also be happy to cross the final finish line in Los Angeles tomorrow.

As you might expect, I don’t have too much energy to produce a Weekend Reading blog this week, so I enlisted the help of my staff back in Colorado Springs. Reigning US Pro Champion Matthew Busche of the Radioshack-Nissan-Trek team was gracious enough to provide us with his power files from the race, and CTS Coach Adam Pulford compared Matthew’s data with the files we’ve taken from CTS Coach Jim Lehman’s SRM power meter.

Adam compared the power files for the first three stages of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California and created a sort of “Pros vs. Joes” look at the differences between riding this course competitively and riding it as part of the ATOC Race Experience. It’s a really interesting piece, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Please note, Matthew Busche is not a CTS-coached athlete. He’s a great rider and whoever he’s working with is doing a wonderful job. I greatly appreciate his generosity in providing us with some of his power files so we could create this comparison piece.

Also, there is some additional content you might want to take a look at today. CTS Athlete Alain Lambert has been writing blog reports after each stage of the ATOC Race Experience and he told me tonight (Friday) that there would be a special reward for readers on his Stage 6 Blog Post. He won’t tell me what it is, and I’ll be asleep when this email hits your inbox, so I have no idea what he’s cooked up. He also has great photo galleries from earlier stages of the Race Experience.

The daily videos that my staff has been emailing out this week are continuing this weekend as well. Since the Stage 6 video will hit Youtube after I’ve gone to sleep tonight, you can use the following link to go to the CarmichaelTV Youtube Channel, where the newest video should be at the top of the list: You can join us for the other Epic Endurance Bucket List events this year, check them out at
