A professional cycling camp for professional chefs:

Carmichael Training Systems has partnered with Chefs Cycle to provide world class training for each chef participating in the May event. This training camp features 3 days of bike handling drills, group riding skills, and incredible riding in Southern California. Each day will have hands-on instruction from professional CTS coaches to help you learn how to take your riding to the next level.

Attendance at this camp is restricted to chefs preparing for Chefs Cycle. For beginner to intermediate riders, the Chefs Camp will start with basic skills that every rider can benefit from, test your fitness, and teach everyone how to take what they learned from camp and apply to their final preparations going into the Chefs Cycle, May of 2017

The Chefs Cycle event in May is no joke, and this camp is a great opportunity to make sure you’re ready for the challenge. To complete 300 miles in 3 days you will need a strong understanding of pacing, riding efficiently in a group, and fueling/hydrating for the long haul. This camp will be include a lot of hands-on instruction on riding skills as well as plenty of training hours on the bike. Coach Adam Pulford has coached novice and elite athletes through some of the hardest endurance events on the planet, and with his guidance you will be ready to have a fun and fulfilling experience at the 2017 Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry!

The World’s Top Chefs Ride for “No Kid Hungry”

Chefs Cycle is a fundraising endurance event featuring award-winning chefs and members of the culinary community fighting hunger outside the kitchen. It’s a cycling event that engages culinary talents who want to push their limits by completing a three day 300 mile ride while raising funds and awareness in support of No Kid Hungry. The 2017 Chefs Cycle ride will take place May 16-18 in Santa Rosa, CA with a goal of 250+ chefs riding to help raise 20 million meals for kids facing hunger.

Camp Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Check-In

    • 2:00-4:00p – Athlete Check-In at Hyatt in Westlake, CA
      • Bike to Mechanic, packet pick up, check in to hotel
    • 5:30-6:30 – Happy Hour at Giant Headquarters
      • Shuttle will be provided.
    • 7:00p – Group dinner, Hyatt in Westlake
  • Day 2 – Skills and Field Test

    • 9:00a – 1:00p – Training Session
      • Bike Handling Skills
      • Field Test
    • 1:00 – 2:00p – Lunch
    • 2:00 – 5:00p – Data Recall with CTS Coaches
      • Massage for athletes, scheduled between data recall.
    • 7:00p – Group dinner (Dinner out)
  • Day 3 – Climbing, Cornering, and Pack Skills

    • 9:00a – 1:00p – Training Session
      • Group Riding Technique
      • Hill Climbing Intervals
      • Cornering and Descending Technique
    • 1:00 – 2:00p – Lunch
    • 2:00 – 5:00p – Data Recall with CTS Coaches
      • Massage for athletes, scheduled between data recall.
    • 7:00p – Group dinner (Chef Cook-off)
  • Day 4 – Endurance Ride

    • 8:00a – 12:00p – Training Session
      • 3-4hr group ride
    • 12:00 – 1:00p – Lunch
    • 1:30 – 3:00p – Group Data Recall and Camp Wrap-Up with CTS Coaches
      • Mechanics packing bikes for travel
    • 5:00p – Athletes Depart

REGISTRATION/CANCELLATIONS

A non-refundable $350.00 deposit is due at time of registration. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the camp and will be billed automatically. The credit card information used for your deposit will be billed unless otherwise arranged with the CTS accounting department.

We recommend you arrive by April 3, 2017. Camp registration will be from 2:00-4:00 PM on April 3, 2017. You must provide your own transportation. The conclusion of the camp will be April 6, 2017.

Airports: LAX is approximately 1 hours and 30 minutes from Westlake (allow more time during high traffic periods).

If you’re flying into LAX airport on April 3, we can arrange a shuttle service to your hotel.

Items to pack for any of our cycling camps:

  • Bicycle: Clean, tuned and ready to ride
  • Gearing: Your bike should have a 12-27 cassette and/or a compact crankset.
  • Helmet
  • Jerseys: at least 4 (short and or long sleeve)
  • Shorts: at least 4 pair
  • Wind Vest
  • Baselayer : 1 or 2 lightweight
  • Rain Jacket
  • Arm Warmers
  • Socks
  • Cycling gloves: short finger
  • Cycling Shoes/pedals (carry these with you if traveling by plane)
  • Eyewear/sunglasses
  • Chamois cream
  • Small tote or backpack for anything you wish to keep in support vehicles.
  • Heart Rate Monitor and/or Power Meter (Power Tap or SRM or other)
  • Sunscreen
  • Toiletries for clean up between rides.

Items to add just in case

  • Light jacket
  • Medium weight jacket
  • Long sleeve and/or thermal jersey
  • Long finger gloves
  • Shoe covers/booties
  • Leg or knee warmers or light tights

Other items to consider:

  • 12-27 or 12-25 cassette – If you are not accustomed to climbing, are a beginner cyclists or are attending a climbing camp.
  • Bottles/mix/food – if you will be arriving before a camp begins or remaining afterward, and wish to ride, please bring what food/drink supplies you will need for your riding.

We will have sport drinks, food, spare tubes/tires, etc in our follow vehicles.  Each day we will prepare waterbottles for your bike using Bonk Breaker Nutrition and will provide you with sports nutrition products for use during the camp.

Lodging is not included with this camp. For your convenience we recommend staying at the Hyatt Regency Westlake. During the camp, rides will depart from and return to this location.

Additional recommendation for lodging that is nearby and very nice is the Westlake Village Inn.
