Strava Gears Up with Training Plans for Cyclists

Plans from CTS Help Improve Performance on Strava Segments

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., (Jan. 8, 2015) — Strava, the online network connecting the global community of athletes, has introduced training plans for cyclists. Developed by expert coaches at CTS, the plans prepare and motivate cyclists to elevate their rankings on Strava’s segment leaderboards and achieve their personal best. The training plans are available to all Strava premium members.

“We are pleased to partner with the experts at CTS, a leading provider of science-based training plans in the endurance sports industry,” said Aaron Forth, Chief Product Officer at Strava. “This initiative further positions Strava as the central hub to meet all the needs of the athlete.”

Strava’s training plans are customizable four-week workout programs designed to improve power and performance for cyclists of all abilities – from novice to experienced. Strava members can select from 10 different plans for efforts ranging from 10 second sprints to 60 minute climbs. Each workout plan is personalized based on an athlete’s preferred start date and weekly training volume.

“Seeing trophies and medals in your Strava feed after a ride feels good,” said CTS Coach Kirk Nordgren, who spearheaded the development of the training plans. “Athletes want to continue making progress, and that’s what CTS Coaches have been helping athletes accomplish for 15 years. We’re excited to help Strava athletes go faster because endurance sports are more fun when you’re fit!”

The addition of training plans complements Strava’s existing lineup of training tools for premium members:

  • Goals – Cyclists can set goals and track their progress in a variety of ways, including weekly time and distance goals, power goals and time-based goals for specific Strava segments.
  • Training Videos – In partnership with FitStar and The Sufferfest, training videos are designed to provide extra motivation to help cyclists stay fit, reach peak performance, and meet training goals when the elements make it difficult for them to train outdoors.
  • Power Curve – Cyclists using power meters users can view their power vs. duration curve, providing a visualization of the maximal power they have sustained for a given time interval.
  • Fitness & Freshness – These indexes allow cyclists with power meters or heart rate monitors to gauge their training load and help them prepare for specific events with maximum freshness and minimal fatigue.

Pricing and Availability

Training plans are available for free today to Strava premium members through strava.com. Strava’s website and mobile apps are free and come with the option of premium membership that provides in-depth analytics, motivational tools like custom goals, training videos, and member-only rewards and benefits. Strava premium membership is available for $6 USD per month or $59 per year.

  4. I’m pretty stoked to use the strava/cts combo. I’ve already been using cts videos in the basement and uploading wahoo fitness to Strava. Loop hole to get around STRAVA’s early unwillingness to record anything but gps outdoor rides.

  5. I just purchased a Garmin 500 and can’t wait to connect to Strava. I have been Strava with my IPhone 5. I thinks joining up with CTS will be great for all even beginner cyclist to get them fluidly riding and getting good at it. Let’s have fun with Strava in 2015
