New CTS Gran Fondo Features First Ascent of Figueroa Mountain
(November 1, 2016 – Santa Ynez, CA) – CTS and Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. announce the first annual CTS Figuero Mountain Gran Fondo, presented by Figueroa Mountain Brewing, to be held on November 11, 2017 in Santa Ynez, California. This unique ride will be open to 1000 cyclists and features the first-ever ascent of the iconic Figueroa Mountain in an organized cycling event.
The full Gran Fondo route (Fig Epic) covers 98 miles and features 9100 feet of climbing, while a shorter Medio Fondo route (Fig Loop) will cover 42 miles and 4500 feet of climbing. Both routes will tackle the ascent of Figueroa Mountain, which gains 4000 feet in elevation over 9.6 miles. There will also be a family-friendly Piccolo Fondo route (Valley Ride) of about 20 miles through the Valley’s rolling hills.
To help prepare cyclists for this challenging event, the professional coaches at CTS will include pre-event training for all registered riders. For athletes who want to make the most out of their visit to the Santa Ynez Valley, there will be all-inclusive 5-day cycling camp that culminates with the gran fondo and includes an event entry and preferred starting position.
“On top of an incredible course, building community is the most important thing about the Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo for me,” said Chris Carmichael. “The people and businesses in the Santa Ynez Valley have made this area a mecca for cyclists. We can’t wait to showcase the valley and Figueroa Mountain, and then bring everyone together to enjoy live music, beer from our friends at Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., and local food, wine, and products from the region.”
“Growing up in the Santa Ynez Valley, I know what a terrific area this is for cycling,” said Jaime Dietenhofer, President of Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., presenting sponsor for the Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo. “Nothing tastes better than a cold beer after a challenging ride and we are very excited to partner with CTS to bring such a great cycling event to the area.”
Sponsorship packages are available, including opportunities to sponsor an aid station, the KOM/QOM competitions, or the VIP Dinner the night before the event. Contact Rebecca Kotch with sponsorship inquiries. Online information: CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo
