Sports We Coach

The thrill of riding and racing powerful machines isn't the only reason your heart beats so fast when you're on the bike or behind the wheel of your racecar.

Physiological testing shows that motorsports can be as physically demanding as other endurance sports. The consequences of fatigued muscles or a lapse in concentration can cost you a win or put you into the wall.

At CTS, we don't teach you how to ride a motorcycle or drive a racecar, but we make sure you have the conditioning, strength, and power to get the most out of your machine. Professional racers from NASCAR ChampCar, the Indy Racing League, the American LeMans Series, and AMA Superbike, Motocross, and Supercross have all benefited from working with CTS, and we can help you gain an advantage on your competition too.

"To perform at your peak, everything's got to work together with precision, and that includes the driver's fitness"

—Bobby Labonte, NASCAR NEXTEL CUP DRIVER

How We Coach Motor Sports Athletes
» We build your aerobic engine so you're better prepared to meet the energy demands of driving/riding without digging into your reserves.
» After examining the demands of your specific event, your coach designs a strength program to maximize your performance.
» We understand the realities of competitive motorsports—the heat, the intensity, focus, and lack of extra space—and work with you and your crew to optimize hydration and nutrition on and off the track.
» Testing, travel, and sponsor events are part of your lifestyle, so we integrate your training and nutrition programs into your schedule to keep you on track.
Results You Can Expect
» Compete with more energy and a clearer head—advantages that can put you on the podium
» Have quicker reaction times than your competitors in the closing laps
» Gain the endurance to drive your machine instead of letting your machine drive you
» Ride or drive all day and still have energy to spare

Four Wheels
When Chris Carmichael first started working with professional racecar drivers, he examined the demands of the sport and realized that drivers were working as hard or harder than elite marathon runners and cyclists, and that fitness could change the balance of fuel that the drivers burned during races. With greater aerobic fitness, you'll conserve precious blood sugar that your brain and nervous system need for making split-second decisions at nearly 200 mph. With more sport-specific strength, you'll be better prepared to counter the G-forces in the car, which means less accumulated fatigue later in the race.Carmichael Training Systems coaches, including Chris Carmichael, Dean Golich, and Craig Griffin work or have worked with drivers in NASCAR (Carl Edwards), the ChampCar Series (AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson), Indy Racing League (Eliseo Salazar, Eddie Cheever, Jr., and Ed Carpenter), and the American LeMans Series (Darren Law and Eddie Cheever, Jr.) You'll have to learn how to drive on your own, but we'll make sure your engine is perfectly tuned when the green flag drops.

Two Wheels
The world of motorcycle racing, both on and off road, is getting more competitive each season, and top riders know that winning takes more than natural talent and a great bike. You need an aerobic engine that's as powerful as your bike's, and superior power and agility to put your bike into the perfect line and hold it there. Champions, including Miguel Duhamel (AMA Superbike), Ben Bostrom (AMA Superbike), Timmy Ferry (AMA Supercross and Motocross), and Kevin Windham (AMA Supercross and Motocross) use CTS to gain an advantage on their competition, and you should too.

Motorcycle racing is one of the most physically demanding endurance sports in the world because athletes are constantly using their bodies to push, pull, and lean the bike. Fit riders can hold tighter lines through corners and make better split-second decisions later in the race, when the competition gets tired and sloppy. And even if you're not racing, greater control and faster reaction times will help you get where you're going faster and safer.
