About The Coach
“My philosophy of coaching is to train the complete athlete. That is beyond just the endurance training, but also nutrition, recovery, functional strength, mental skills, and of course sport-specific skills. I am an analytical and pragmatic person by nature and tend to take that approach in my coaching as well.”
My philosophy of coaching is to train the complete athlete. That goes beyond just endurance training—it includes nutrition, recovery, functional strength, mental skills, and, of course, sport-specific development. I’m naturally analytical and pragmatic, and I take that approach in my coaching as well.
My passion for cycling and fitness has always been rooted in the pursuit of athletic achievement, but over the years, it has evolved into a commitment to lifelong health and longevity. I started racing in college, competed nationally for several years, and won multiple state titles as a Cat 1. I am also a six-time Masters National Champion in both road and track cycling. While my competitive drive still fuels me, I now embrace training not just for performance but as an investment in my long-term well-being. As a mature athlete, I understand firsthand the importance of adapting training to support health, resilience, and sustained athleticism over time. My career has always revolved around cycling. I first worked with Chris Carmichael at USA Cycling in the mid-1990s when he was the National Coaching Director. I had the opportunity to serve as a sports science consultant for the U.S. Olympic Cycling Team leading up to the 1996 Olympics. That experience led me to pursue a master’s degree in Exercise Science, and by the time I completed it, Chris was launching CTS. I was one of the first coaches he brought on board, and I’ve been coaching full-time with CTS since 2001.
At CTS, I’ve had the privilege of working with athletes across a wide range of disciplines, from road, track, and mountain biking to team sports, motorsports, and even shooting. While I enjoy coaching highly competitive athletes, most of my clients are in their 40s, 50s, and even 70s—athletes who want to get stronger, perform better, or simply defy age and achieve their best. My approach to coaching is rooted in the belief that training should enhance both performance and longevity, helping athletes stay strong, capable, and active for years to come.
