Experience why California is one of the best places to ride in the world.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Amgen Tour of California Race Experience was a spring focal point for 10 years here at CTS. With the cancellation of the race in 2020, our new event the, Golden State Epic, is set to capture the features athletes liked most about the Race Experience and upgrades features we now have more flexibility with.

The Golden State Epic will feature 6 days of big point-to-point rides, epic climbs, world-class scenery, and the on- and off-bike support you expect from CTS. And because we have increased flexibility, we will have later start times in the mornings, shorter or non-existent transfers, upgraded hotel accommodations, and better food.

We’ve hand picked some of the best routes in California that will take you through towering redwood trees, across the Golden Gate Bridge, past sweeping ocean views, and over epic climbs from Santa Rosa to Santa Ynez.

ROUTE DETAILS

Arrive in Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa King’s Ridge Loop

97 miles  |  9970′ Elevation Gain

We begin our Epic journey riding the famed roads of Sonoma County. The day 1 route takes us past redwood forests and sweeping ocean views on many of the same roads as Levis’ Kings Ridge Gran Fondo as well as multiple ATOC stages.

Stay at host hotel in Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa To San Francisco

88 miles  |  6700′ elevation gain

On day two we ride from Santa Rosa to San Francisco. There is no shortage of scenic and challenging riding today as we pedal past ocean bays near Point Reyes National Seashore, climb through the redwood slopes of Mt Tamalpais, and finish by riding across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.

Stay at host hotel in Palo Alto.

Palo Alto to Santa Cruz

79 miles  |  8800′ elevation gain

Day three begins in Palo Alto and starts with a famous Bay Area climb up Old La Honda road. The day is spent riding (and climbing) through the redwood forests between San Francisco and the beach town of Santa Cruz, including passing near Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

Stay at host hotel in Monterey.

Monterey to Ragged Point

95 miles  |  9930′ elevation gain

Today’s route might be the most scenic and iconic in all of California. We depart from Monterey for an adventure down the Big Sur coastline, finishing on the cliffs above the ocean at the Ragged Point Resort. Along the way you will have the chance to ride the optional bonus climb of Nacimiento Fergusson road with amazing ocean views.

Stay at host hotel in Ragged Point.

Ragged Point to Pismo Beach

85 miles  |  6100′ elevation gain

Our route today takes us farther down the central coast, with a few ventures inland to sample the climbing of San Luis Obispo county. We will tackle Santa Rosa Creek road in the first half of the ride and Prefumo Canyon at the end, before a final descent into the oceanside town of Pismo Beach.

Stay at host hotel in Pismo Beach.

Pismo Beach to Santa Ynez

95 miles  |  5,600′ elevation gain

Our final stage takes us into the Santa Ynez Valley and to our ultimate destination at the CTS Santa Ynez Training Center. But we aren’t taking the easy route, as we tackle 5 categorized climbs along the way, including ascents of Harris Grade, Drum Canyon, and Foxen Canyon.

Stay at host hotel in Santa Ynez.

Depart from Santa Barbara airport (SBA)
