After examining all options available for producing the CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo this November, we have concluded the pandemic-related health risks for athletes and staff are unacceptably high, and we have decided to postpone the event.

With a November event date, we hoped the public health crisis would subside in time to allow for the resumption of mass-start cycling events. With COVID19 cases surging in many areas throughout the United States in recent weeks, we consulted the USA Cycling Risk Assessment Tool and Event Guidelines, as well as guidelines from the newly-formed Cycling Event Task Force, and created plans for contactless packet pickup, small group starting procedures, COVID-conscious aid stations, and modified post-ride activities. We also consulted and are grateful for the continued support from our event partners, including Lucas Oil, the City of Solvang, Chumash Casino Resort, Figueroa Mountain Brewing, Hotel Corque, Pinarello, Shimano, Giordana, and more.

While we are confident we can provide a safe environment and minimize infection risk during the event, we also have to consider the impact on the Santa Ynez Valley, the risks athletes and staff would face while traveling to and from the event, and all the ways the rider experience would have to change in order to meet current state and local requirements. Based on feedback from the local community and potential event participants, we concluded there was no viable solution for holding the CTS Figueroa Mountain Gran Fondo in Solvang, California, this November.

One of the many revelations from the past several months is how much we value and enjoy bringing cyclists together for great rides and incredible experiences. We can’t wait to ride with you again, and to reach that milestone we all need to do our part to bring the pandemic under control.
