Reid Beloni

CTS Senior Coach – Specializes In Cycling Coaching

“My approach to coaching is equal parts scientific and personal.  I think power meters are great and have really improved the coach-athlete relationship, but that you also need to truly enjoy riding your bike to see lasting fitness gains. Additionally, I believe in working together with my athletes through regular communication to create goals and a plan that is the correct alignment of training, life, family and rest, all while finding joy in the process.”

Coach Bio:
I have pretty much always ridden a bike, first in a gang of neighborhood kids getting ice cream on the weekend, and then later commuting 5 miles to and from school most days because I didn’t have a parking pass. In high school, a mentor from the local bike shop convinced me to go on some longer rides and eventually try racing, and I never looked back.
My passion for endurance exercise led me to a B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise, followed by a M.S. degree from Appalachian State University in Exercise Science. I did that while enjoying a fun and successful collegiate cycling career and racing on the road at an elite level. After hanging up my dream of a road racing career, I joined CTS in 2014, and have really enjoyed the opportunity to coach athletes around the world in a wide range of disciplines.
Today, I continue to race on the road, but my main focus has turned off the pavement to mountain bike and gravel. I spent a few years focusing on endurance mountain bike with some highlights being Cape Epic, winning Marathon Nationals, and a top 20 at Leadville. I have been riding gravel for as long as I’ve been on a bike, and started racing gravel as soon as races came to our area (around 2012) and later traveled to some of the premier events like Landrun, DK and SBT GRVL.  Now the majority of events I participate in are gravel races, and I coach a lot of athletes–both novice and veteran–in the world of gravel.  My education in sport also continues, as I like staying up-to-date on the latest research and training tools so I can give informed advice to my athletes. I am the lead bike fitter at the Brevard Training Center, where–like my coaching–I blend high-precision data with athlete feedback for comfort and power.  I have been trained by SBCU in Retul technology and use their tools and a suite of others in my fitting.
In addition to coaching and riding, I enjoy many outdoor mountain activities, including hiking with my dog and wife, fellow coach Nina.
