Kerry Bonar
CTS Expert Coach
“I believe that coaching is part art, part science. I love getting to know an athlete and helping them understand how their body responds to athletic stress. The art of coaching comes in blending scientific principles of training with your specific life circumstances and individual genetics. Finding the balance and creating a recipe for optimizing fitness in each unique, individual athlete is what I love most about coaching.”
Coach Bio:
I have been an athlete my whole life. I spent my youth competing in gymnastics and have found that the physical strength, precise balance, and grit that I learned through gymnastics have had a lifetime of benefit. I discovered mountain biking after college and absolutely fell in love with the sport and the group of friends that all pushed each other to be better. I moved from California to Colorado in 1999 and mountain bike races provided a great opportunity to see all the cool mountain towns around Colorado. I progressed to the professional ranks and spent the early 2000s racing my bike throughout North America and occasionally Europe. My focus was mountain biking and cyclocross but I also raced on the road to gain fitness and learn race tactics.
During this time I also earned an MS degree in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver. Balancing my school work and bike racing helped me master time-efficient workouts. Since graduating from PT school, I have worked as a physical therapist in a variety of settings, primarily focusing on outpatient orthopedics.
My education and knowledge as a physical therapist, in combination with my own training experience, have given me a great platform to coach athletes. I love to help athletes achieve their fitness goals and help them navigate any injuries they may experience along the journey.
In 2009, I returned to my home state of California and currently live in Mountain View, CA with my husband and two kids. After many years of bike racing professionally, I now enjoy competing in events that celebrate community as much as athletic accomplishment. There is something special about challenging ourselves, setting goals, and navigating the path to make our dreams a reality.
