Team Trainright started the triathlon season with four podium finishes including two first place finishes by Jon and Randy at the Summer Open in Longmont, Colorado. Malia and Cameron earned second place finishes in their age group. Great results for a team of five competing with 368 other athletes.
The triathlon became a duathlon, but Jon Mullen felt like it was handled well saying, "Without Limits Productions puts on awesome events. Even though mother nature threw them a curveball with an e-coli infested lake, they calmly changed plans for the race to happen – albeit a duathlon, but fun was had by all!"
Amy was a bit disappointed by the e-coli infestation as swimming is her strong leg, but was pleased with her effort, going faster than last year. She noted, "warming up is essential for a race this length. If I hadn't warmed up, I think I would have been hurting well into the bike leg before my muscles were finally ready to go."
This was the 4th Summer Open, an event attracting many top athletes in the region. Malia said of the sprint distance, "I love starting my season with a sprint tri, regardless of my goal distance for the season to shake all the cobwebs, both physically and mentally, from the many months off from racing." Randy tweeted before the race wondering how his six months of training with Carmichael Training would affect his outcome. Well, a first place finish in a very competitive race says it all.
It's only May, things are shaping up well for Team Trainright!
