Hors Categorie Climbing Camp – Rocky Mountains, CO

July 9-14, 2013 (5-Day Camp) or July 12-14 (3-Day Camp)

Hors catégorie is a French term used in cycle races (most notably, le Tour de France) to designate a climb that is "beyond categorization”. Most climbs in cycling are designated from Category 1 (hardest) to Category 4 (easiest), based on both steepness and length. A climb that is harder than Category 1 is designated as hors catégorie, and must ascend 1000m or 3280ft with an average grade of 7%. The term was originally used for those mountain roads where cars were not expected to be able to pass.

Nearly every cyclist we work with wants to improve his or her ability to ride uphill, and a 5-day camp is just what you need. You will ride along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, the highest paved roads in North America on Mount Evans and Pikes Peak, and experience some 40,000ft of climbing over nearly 400miles.  Our most challenging climbing camp to date, these “beyond classification” climbs will test even the most seasoned cyclist. The coaching staff will determine your most efficient climbing pace so you can reach your climbing goals.

Although this camp is tailored for the advanced cyclist, our coaching staff will accommodate any rider and help them reach their goals as the road tips skyward. Also offered is a 3-day camp option that will join with the 5-day camp on its 3rd day.  We highly recommend that your bicycle be equipped with a 12-27 cassette, and/or a compact crankset, for this camp.

The weather during this time of year can vary from 50-95 degrees, and rain showers can sometimes pass through at higher elevations. Be sure to come prepared for all weather conditions.
