Climbing Camp – Brevard, NC
May 15-18, 2013
This climbing camp will be held in our new location in Brevard NC. Brevard is a small town located in Western North Carolina, nestled between the Pisgah National Forest and the DuPont State Forest of the Appalachian Mountains. Known as the “land of waterfalls”, Brevard is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Brevard is not only famous for its abundant outdoor activities, but also plays host to a vibrant downtown scene with art galleries, terrific restaurants, theatre, the Brevard Music Center, and Brevard College.
The format follows a similar format as CTS’s very popular Climbing Camps conducted in Colorado. You’ll learn key techniques that help riders of all sizes and shapes excel when the road tips toward the sky. And since what goes up must come down, we will also help you develop the confidence and skills you need to descend quickly, safely, and efficiently. Camps include a CTS Field Test and subsequent review of test data with the coaching staff to determine your most efficient climbing pace. Following days will include longer endurance rides focusing on climbing.
Our three and a half day Climbing Camps welcome riders of intermediate and advanced fitness and skill abilities. We highly recommend that your bicycle be equipped with compact gearing, or at least a 12-27 cassette for the terrain encountered at this camp.
Brevard, North Carolina is one of the top vacation destinations on the East Coast, and for good reason. Situated just east of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and adjacent to the Pisgah National Forest, Brevard is the gateway to thousands of acres of outdoor playground. And with a wide variety of restaurants, fine hotels, and cultural and natural sights and events through out the year, Brevard is a great place to come for a weekend, a week, or the rest of your life.
Further, Asheville is just as stones throw away.. Known for its beautiful mountains, abundant outdoor activities and rich local history Asheville has been named One of the Top Ten Outdoor Towns (Outside Magazine, 2002) and one of the 10 Great Adventure towns in 2004 (National Geographic Adventure)..
Temperatures in May can vary from 50-70 degrees at mid-day, and spring rains are likely. Please come prepared to ride in all weather conditions.
