Recon/Training Camp
Date: July 22-23, 2012
Focus: Two big days of training. Preview and learn the specific challenges of the LT100 course
Location: Leadville, Colorado
Looking to ride your fastest‐ever Leadville 100, or wondering what you got yourself into if it’s your first time? Then what better place to join your friends, and make new ones, than on the Leadville course in the shadow of Mounts Elbert and Massive? Come ride with CTS Coaches and learn the riding skills needed to be confident, powerful, and successful in Leadville come August. Pre‐ride the crucial parts of the course and learn strategies to get you through the race and through unanticipated obstacles.
This is an intensive race‐specific camp that will challenge your skills and fitness. Expect to spend at least 4 hours per day on the bike. This camp is best suited for intermediate and advanced mountain bikers, and anyone planning on competing in the LT100 Mountain Bike Race. We recommend that your bicycle be equipped with a 12‐32 or 12‐ 34 rear cassette or appropriate singlespeed gearing (gear ratio or 1.8:1 or less) for this camp.
Included with completion of this camp is an entry into the 2012 Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike race. Attendance at the camp is required in order to receive an entry into the 2012 race.

No discounts/coupons can be applied to this camp. Airfare, Lodging and Transportation not included.
Registration:
Full payment is due at time of registration.
Race registration will occur on the first day of the camp.
You must attend the camp to gain race entry! No exceptions!
Cancellation:
Due to the special nature of this camp, we have a special cancellation policy. You will be refunded 50% of the camp price if you cancel before April 1st, 2012. if you cancel on or after April 1st, you will not be issued a refund for camp cancellation. Camp cancellation regardless of the time frame will also result in race entry forfeiture.
Carmichael Training Systems reserves the right to cancel a camp. We will do so at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the camp. In this event, you will be issued a full refund. CTS is not responsible for fees associated with planning your trip, such as airfare.
Arrival/Departure:
We recommend you arrive by 4:00 PM on July 21, 2012. You must provide your own transportation to and in Leadville. This includes having transportation out to Twin Lakes to do the Columbine climb. The conclusion of the camp will be July 23, after the final ride.
Bike Transport and Assembly:
If you are shipping your bike, please make sure it arrives at CTS or your hotel by July 21, 2012. If you wish to ship your bike, we recommend using Sports Express. They provide door to door pick/up and delivery of your bike. You will need to pack your bike, or have it packed for you, and Sports Express will take care of the rest. Sports Express can be found at www.sportsexpress.com/trainright. We will take care of packing your bike before you depart.

There are several hotels around Leadville, CO. Leadville is a small town, so you'll be able to ride to the starting points of rides that begin in town. You'll need to arrange transportation to the ride that begins in Twin Lakes. Here are some suggested lodging options:

Acceptable Bikes
This is a mountain bike camp. Acceptable bikes include 26- and 29-inch wheel bikes with gears. We love singlespeeds, but in order to keep the groups together we ask that everyone ride geared bikes. If you have questions about your bike setup, please contact the camp manager.
Airport:
Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is about 2.5-3.0 hours away from Leadville, CO.
Denver International Airport (DEN) is an approximate 2.5 hour drive away.
Aspen Airport is an approximate 1.5-2.0 hour drive away (over Independence Pass).
Things to Bring
Items to pack for any of our camps:
- Clean moutnain bike, tuned and ready to ride
- Helmet
- Jerseys at least 2 (short and or long sleeve)
- Shorts at least 2 pair
- Wind Vest
- Base layer 1 or 2 lightweight
- Rain Jacket
- Arm Warmers
- Socks
- Cycling gloves, short finger and/or long finger
- Cycling Shoes/pedals (carry these with you if traveling by plane)
- Eyewear/sunglasses
- Chamois cream
- Small tote or backpack for anything you wish to keep in support vehicles.
- Heart Rate Monitor and/or Power Meter (Power Tap or SRM or other)
- Sunscreen
- Toiletries for clean up between rides.
Items to add just in case.
- Light jacket
- Medium weight jacket
- Long sleeve and/or thermal jersey
- Long finger gloves
- Shoe covers/booties
- Leg or knee warmers or light tights
Other items to consider:
- Bottles/mix/food – if you will be arriving before a camp begins or remaining afterward, and wish to ride, please bring what food/drink supplies you will need for your riding.
We will have sport drinks, food, spare tubes/tires, etc in our follow vehicles. Each day we will prepare water bottles for your bike using GU Electrolyte Brew, and will provide you with GU Energy products for use during the camp.
