CTS has adopted strict standards that each and every coach must meet in order to be considered for a coaching position with Carmichael Training Systems. The prerequisites require that candidates possess credentials that go beyond the requirements of National Governing Body coaching programs.


CTS has adopted strict standards that each and every coach must meet in order to be considered for a coaching position with Carmichael Training Systems. The prerequisites require that candidates possess credentials that go beyond the requirements of National Governing Body coaching programs.

Prerequisites:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Exercise Science or equivalent field of study.
  • Extensive first-hand experience as an athlete (preferably in endurance sports).
  • If already coaching, provide documented history of athletes’ long-term (i.e., 2 years minimum) development and success.
  • Possess, or be in the process of obtaining, a National Governing Body (NGB) coaching license: USA Cycling, USA Triathlon, USA Swimming, USA Track and Field, etc.
  • Possess, or be in the process of obtaining, additional licenses or certifications: ACE, ACSM, NATA, NSCA, etc.
Screening and Interview Process
Having confirmed these prerequisites, CTS puts applicants through an extensive screening process. Applicants must complete a background questionnaire, an expertise and interest survey, and a background check. They must also design a training plan for a mock athlete scenario. Only if these steps indicate the ability to be excellent coaches will applicants be interviewed. The interviews delve further into their coaching aptitudes, including a defense of the training plan they created for the mock athlete scenario. Interviews with each applicant will evaluate their core knowledge, enthusiasm for the profession of coaching, and their communication skills.
