Scot Van Asten

About Me

I joined the CTS team in 2005. During the last 10 years I have put my competitive energy into the sport of ultra running. The decade before that was spent racing my bicycle competitively on both the dirt and road, with cyclocross being my favorite discipline.  Over the years I have also competed in both duathlons and triathlons of all distances.  Regardless of the sport, I have learned that my racing success is product of concentrating on one sport at a time. While coaching and racing I continue to utilize my degree in Kinesiology to make the principles I have learned in the academic setting practical in the field.

My ability to effectively communicate with my athletes is the primary reason they continue to exceed their goals.  The best laid plans or strategies are worthless if the message is not properly conveyed.  Experience has taught me that some athletes respond best to written communication while others benefit from conversation, and some are best served by in person instruction or feedback.

I offer personal coaching, one on one camps, and small group instruction to athletes of all abilities.

My forte is focusing on my athlete’s specific situation. This allows me to tailor their exercise prescription to fit within the confines of their family and professional responsibilities.  Being direct with my assessments of a client’s strengths and weaknesses has proven to be one of my coaching strengths. I recognize that most athletes don’t have unlimited time to train. My programming maximizes the time you have available to work out and compete.

Long distance running and cycling events fascinate me because of the preparation, strategy, and mental aspects are uniquely challenging.
