This climbing camp will be held in Brevard NC location. Brevard is a small town located in Western North Carolina, nestled between the Pisgah National Forest and the DuPont State Forest of the Appalachian Mountains. Known as the “land of waterfalls”, Brevard is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Brevard is not only famous for its abundant outdoor activities, but also plays host to a vibrant downtown scene with art galleries, terrific restaurants, theatre, the Brevard Music Center, and Brevard College. The format follows a similar format as CTS’s very popular Climbing Camps conducted in Colorado. You’ll learn key techniques that help riders of all sizes and shapes excel when the road tips toward the sky. And since what goes up must come down, we will also help you develop the confidence and skills you need to descend quickly, safely, and efficiently. Camps include a CTS Field Test and subsequent review of test data with the coaching staff to determine your most efficient climbing pace. Following days will include longer endurance rides focusing on climbing.

Our three and a half day Climbing Camps welcome riders of beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness and skill abilities. We highly recommend that your bicycle be equipped with compact gearing of 34/50, or at least a 12-27+ cassette for the terrain encountered at this camp.

Camp Includes:

  • Daily training sessions with Carmichael Training Systems Coaches
  • Professional mechanics
  • Training Presentations from CTS Coaches and outside professionals
  • Complete ride support with hydration products and Bonk Breaker nutrition
  • CTS Cycling Jersey
  • 3 lunches
  • 2 dinners
  • Lots of climbing

Eat. Ride. Sleep. Repeat.

Three long days on the bike is a big challenge, so we make sure to take great care of you off the bike. Three lunches and two dinners are included with this camp and you’ll be treated to fresh, nutritious ingredients and enjoy dinners from some of the best local restaurants. Since you’ll be riding many more hours than you normally do at home, you will also have access to recovery tools like Normatec compression boots. When you’re not on the bike we encourage you to relax as much as possible and learn about training, nutrition, and recovery during seminars led by our professional coaches.

Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Brevard has long been one of the premier locations for endurance athletes to live and train. With its moderate climate, spectacular mountains, and Southern hospitality, it’s no wonder why. The finest roads, trails, and climbs in the South are just minutes away from the doors of our location.

Camp Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Wednesday

Wednesday is our check in and arrival day. We will have the doors open and waiting to greet you at 3:30 PM. At this time you will drop off your bike with our mechanical support staff, get your goodie bag, and get to meet our great team of coaches. Following check in we will have a group diner, staff and athlete introductions, and a nutrition lecture to set the tone for fueling for the weekend ahead.

  • Day 2 – Thursday

Day 1 of camp will begin with a light breakfast on your own to fuel you for the days efforts of assessment and testing. You will enjoy the pleasure of the CTS Field Test followed by skills assessments by our coaches in our morning ride. This will allow our coaches to best place you in a group for the following rides as well as to serve as a starting point to talk about how to improve your fitness and reach your goals. After the ride session we will have a post ride lunch and a short presentation on climbing techniques. Then its back to the bikes for an invigorating climbing and descending skills session. This ride will focus on skills and tactics to make you a better climber and a faster, safer descender!

  • Day 3 – Friday

Day 2 of camp bring our first long ride. During this ride we will use some of the skills we reviewed on Thursday on the ups and the downs. We will further work on perceived effort on the climbs and use of the power ranges that were developed from your individual field tests. This will be a long day in the saddle so eat well in the morning! Climbs will include Hwy 276 or Hwy 215 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Parkway itself and a few others for good measure! Following our ride we will have a late lunch and individual data recall sessions with the coaches. This is your time to ask questions and learn more about what we see as coaches from the power data recorded during the ride. Later that evening we will gather once again for a group diner in downtown Brevard.

  • Day 4 – Saturday

Day 3 and our final day together in the mountains of Western NC! This will be one last day of good climbing and miles together. We will try to wrap up on skills during this ride along with pacing and nutrition strategies. Along the way we hope to suffer a bit together and have loads of fun! Climbs of note may include Jeter Mountain, Green River Preserve, Pinnacle Mountain, Caesar’s Head, or Hwy 178. After the ride we will have our traditional cookout and spend time as a group answering any remaining questions you might have!
