Ultramarathons are hard. You can’t change that fact. What you can change is how well prepared you are going into the event.

If you are doing a mountainous ultramarathon, there’s no substitute for long, hard miles and big vertical. Make no doubt, this camp will be challenging, even for the most seasoned ultramarathoners. This camp is your opportunity to spend 5 days in the high alpine mountains of Colorado. With 14 14,000 ft. mountains in close proximity, Colorado’s renown Sawatch range provides the perfect playground for high altitude training for your next ultramarathon. Join CTS coaches Jason Koop and John Fitzgerald for 4 days that you will surely not forget. Because of the nature of this camp, participants are limited to 12 athletes. You must have completed a 50 mile run in the last 2 years in order to register.

This camp features full accommodations while you are in Leadville, CO. In order to fuel you properly, we have partnered with Real Athlete Diets to provide camp meals.

Additionally, CTS will be providing shuttles from the Denver International Airport and to/from all runs.

Colorado’s Sawatch Range

Colorado’s Sawatch range and its multitude of 14,000 foot peaks will be the backdrop for this camp. Mount Elbert, Mount Massive, Mount Harvard, Mount Colombia, La Plata and a host of other 13,000-14,000 peaks and passes await. Each day will be a challenging point-to-point endurance run in excess of 4 hours. We will support each run with an aid station approximately half way through. While the camp will surely be challenging rest assured that our coaches and staff will take care of you on and off of the trail.

Back-to-back training days are key to preparing for any mountainous ultra

This camp provides all the mileage and vertical you can handle in 5 jam packed days. No trail will be retraced and all routes will be point to point. Each day will be over 4 hours of running and 4,500 feet of climbing at altitudes between 9,000 and 14,000 feet. Over the course of the camp, you will top out at over 80 miles and 32,000 feet of climbing (ouch). This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, dial in your nutrition and hydration strategies and learn from the best coaches in the business.

Camp Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Tuesday

    This is the arrival and check in day. For your convenience, will be running shuttles from Denver International Airport. Please let the camp manager know when you will be arriving and if you need transportation.

  • Day 2 – Wednesday

    Mount Massive and Mount Elbert- We will begin at the Leadville Fish Hatchery (elevation 10,843 feet) and proceed to summit Mount Elbert (elevation 14,439 feet) and Mount Massive and descend into the town of Twin Lakes. Total Mileage 21 miles. Total vertical gain 9200 feet.

  • Day 3 – Thrusday

    La Plata, Mt Huron, Mt Missouri, Oxford. This run will start at the La Plata trailhead (elevation 10,200 feet) and proceed up La Plata (14,361 ft). From the summit of La Plata, we will descend to the ghost town of Winfield (10,220 feet), and then proceed to summit Huron Peak (14,009 feet). Form Huron Peak, we will descent into Cloyses Lake (11,000 feet) and the proceed to summit the trifecta of Missouri, Belford and Oxford before descending down to the Missouri Gulch trailhead. One aid station will be provided in Winfield at 8 miles. Total Mileage ~25 miles. Total vertical gain 12,950 feet.

  • Day 4 – Friday

    The Colorado Trail. This relatively flatter day will still be tough. We will start of the Clear Creek Road Trailhead and run the Colorado Trail south to North Cottonwood creek. Total Mileage 18.2 miles. Total vertical gain 4,500 feet.

  • Day 5 – Saturday

    Harvard and Colombia. Beginning at the Pine Creek Trailhead, we will ascend Mt. Harvard (14,420 feet), and then Mt. Colombia (14,073 feet) descending the horn fork basin to the North Cottonwood Trailhead. Total Mileage ~17 miles. Total vertical gain 6450 feet.

  • Day 6 – Sunday

    Departure day. CTS will be providing shuttles to Denver International Airport

REGISTRATION/CANCELLATIONS

A non-refundable $800.00 deposit is due at time of registration. The remaining balance is due on or before June 18, 2017  and will be billed automatically. The credit card information used for your deposit will be billed unless otherwise arranged with the CTS accounting department.

Weather in Colorado is notorious for changing in an instant. Please keep track of the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing.

This camp is fully supported with Bonk Breaker and Carb Boom nutrition products. If you require something different, please bring it! Be prepared to run unsupported for up to 3 hours. The following items are a sample list of what you will need
